what is feng shui?
Of the many forms of feng shui, three of the most important schools are taught and used for surveys of homes and businesses. greenearth uses all three forms to guide our analysis of your home or business.
Form School observes and interprets surrounding landscape and forms. These include mountains and their shapes, trees, neighbouring houses and buildings, and particularly bodies of water near the house including running creeks, rivers, ponds and swimming pools. For example, a row of trees behind a house, which can be seen when standing a short distance from the front of a house, is not only interpreted as protection from wind, weather and against robbery, but also as support from superiors at work or from society generally. Although a fundamental part of feng shui teaching, practitioners should also use other feng shui forms when performing a survey of a home or business.
Compass School looks at a home divided into eight compass sectors and requires an understanding of the interaction of the five elements. Each sector relates to a different aspect of the occupants' lives, as well as to each person and his/her position in the household. For example the Eastern Sector of a house relates to the general health and how well a family gets along, as well as the prospects in life for the eldest son. This form of feng shui needs to be determined with the help of a compass. greenearth uses a lopan (traditional Chinese compass).
The most sacred form of feng shui is the Flying Star School, which looks at the ‘unseen forces’ of a building. Flying Star feng shui teaches us about the influence of time on a building. Establishing a Flying Star chart is done by qualified feng shui practitioners such as the team at greenearth and is comparable to calculating the blueprint or birth chart of a home. This calculation uses information such as when the home was built as well as a compass, and will give the most accurate information as to how well the home will support the occupants in terms of finances, health and relationships.
feng shui for homes
Most of us have a strong sense of how an environment makes us feel simply through intuition. Some spaces might make you feel uncomfortable straight away — you might have difficulties relaxing or concentrating — while other spaces make you feel welcome, where you are comfortable and feel invited or drawn in. When we look for a new house to live in we instinctively know which house ‘suits’ us and which house just does not feel right.
Feng shui takes this intuition a step further and identifies specific energies in buildings through the use of compass, time, and the language of the universe: mathematics. Feng shui combines elements of astronomy, astrology, geology, physics, mathematics, philosophy and intuition.
Your home is a sanctuary, an outer shell, designed to protect you from outside influences. What you create inside your home reflects how you feel and relate to life on an internal level. Ideally your home should support you on all levels so that you can live your life with a true sense of purpose and contentment. The feng shui of a home will reflect your journey and at the same time offers the opportunity to bring about positive change to improve specific aspects of your life.
Every building has negative (sha chi) and positive (sheng chi) energies, and only a Flying Star practitioner is able to fully and accurately identify those energies. greenearth is qualified and able to assess the positive energies in your home and understands how to make them usable, while also offering ways to suppress the negative energies that always exist.
feng shui for business
Feng shui can be used as a tool to make predictions as to how well a building will support businesses and offices. Poor feng shui in a business location can result in financial problems, staff health problems, and poor staff productivity and harmony, along with many other issues. You might know some shops where businesses continually change and do not seem to survive. Unfortunately this is often due to bad feng shui at the location.
Improving and balancing environments with the help of feng shui can create a better environment for your staff and in turn increase their productivity, attract more customers to your business and ultimately improve profitability.
greenearth feng shui can help you and your business and we do offer special rates to businesses working for the community, children or the environment.
space clearing
what is space clearing?
Clearing a space is the cleansing of energy and matter in a living space to release stagnant energy. This process will allow room for new opportunities to come into your home and therefore to you directly.
A space clearing ceremony for a home can be seen as an external detox. Just as our bodies cannot absorb vital nutrients when our bowels and liver are full of accumulated toxins and waste, a home filled up with stagnant energy and clutter on a material level will also not allow harmonious flow or wellbeing for body, mind and spirit. This clutter can block your personal growth and hinder you from moving on.
A home will not only store clutter we hold on to, but also store energy after its occupants move on, remembering especially emotionally charged events until a clearing ceremony can shift this 'space memory'. You might actually be living with someone else’s energy memory, especially in older homes or in a home with a traumatic history.
when to consider a space clearing
A space clearing can be done at any time or stage, and is especially beneficial in spring. Here are some significant situations when a space clearing ceremony can be particularly helpful:
- When moving into a new home — this can remove energy and space memory left behind by previous occupants
- Leaving your old home — release the past and move on for a fresh start
- When you are trying to sell your home
- After a significant life event such as a separation or death — this will allow moving through grief and sadness without getting stuck in it
- To improve existing relationships or invite new ones into your life
- When feeling stuck with your career or life path — making space for new ideas and inspirations
- When experiencing health problems — this may include any of the occupants
- To increase your vitality
- To enhance your spiritual development
- To prepare for a birth
- To manifest more prosperity
- To clean out an office or work space when starting a new job
- As part of an annual spring clean
